The Dicks family have been involved with the sport of model yachting since 1957 when Chris got involved in free sailing. He soon started designing free sailing boats and he had much success with his designs throughout the 70’s and early 80’s.
Radio Sailing came along and Chris designed the very successful Widget which is still a great entry level club racing IOM to this day and a well built and tuned example will still hold its own at National level competition against much more modern thinking.
Unfortunately Chris passed away a few years ago and the mantle was passed to his son Mark, who like his dad has been involved in the sport for much of his life. His interest in model yacht design was born through building and sailing with his dad at many free sailing events around the country.
Marks design interest has been concentrated on the RG65 and IOM classes and his designs are competitive in both these two classes. Mark has also penned a couple of M class yachts for skippers around the world and these will probably be just as racy as the other yachts that have come from the Dicks Designs stable over the years.
If you have a particular design concept that you’d like to build but don’t have the necessary skills to pen your own design please use the contact page to get in touch with Mark and discuss your requirements.
